Operation Compassion Responds to Southeast TN Tornadoes

Sunday afternoon and into early Monday morning, the southern United States was living through a severe tornado outbreak. Destruction and death were spread out across a large swath of the southeast as wave after wave of severe storms kept training its way across the region. With storms beating down on North Georgia and southeastern Tennessee, home to Operation Compassion, the reality of helping our immediate neighbors came into focus.

As the sun rose on Monday morning, the damage and destruction became eerily apparent. While some homes and businesses were spared, many others were not. Trees, power lines and debris have made assessment of the damage difficult but first responders have done a tremendous job.

Operation Compassion also started putting together its disaster relief response as three relief sites were established with the County EMA and other agencies. Our first site was located on the east side of Cleveland, TN on Lowery Street in partnership with Bradley County EMA and the Mayor’s office; Redemption Point Church in Ooltewah, TN will serve the Hamilton County area; Cross Pointe Church in Dalton, Ga will serve as the Murray – Whitfield County distribution site.

Bottled water, food, snacks, cleaning supplies and many other goods and products are being delivered to help the survivors as they remove debris and start the clean-up process.
